[I]shi

From the hills of the kami

Ishi meaning 'stone' or 'rock' in Japanese and symbolising durability, stability and a connection to nature. At Ishi Soundworks we have taken these virtues and applied them to our design philosophy by handcrafting our line-up using 100% natural, slate stone from the hills of the kami. Inspired by purposeful design, all of our products are rooted in simplicity, harmony and balance.

[S]late

Throughout human history, sacred stones and rock formations have served as meeting points for worship, ceremony and the beating of drums. Ishi Soundworks is built on these traditions. But why slate? Simply put, 400 million years of earthly formation have created a metamorphic rock that is both inert and solid, and a material that is perfectly suited to hifi design. Because of its weight and solidity, slate offers many acoustic benefits, most notably superb vibration dampening, and an enhanced sound purity.

[H]armony

Inspired by the simplicity of Japanese design, all Ishi products favour elegance and form over more complicated solutions. By embracing these design principles, we aim to deliver products that effortlessly combine the best of modern technology with the elemental power of the nature that surrounds us.

[I]wakura

'Iwakura' known as sacred rocks or boulder formations throughout Shinto faith. Often found in nature, behind shrines or in mountainous areas, Iwakura are commonly considered to be the natural, eternal resting places for kami.  Typically adorned with shimenawa ropes, these sacred sites and objects of nature are seen as important spaces for worship. It is for these reasons that we have called our bookshelf speakers Iwakura.
